Greening education for a water secure world in a changing climate

  • Greening Education Hub, COP 28 Al Wasl Avenue Dubai, Dubai United Arab Emirates (map)

This session aims to raise awareness of the importance of education for climate, particularly on hydroclimatic impacts (such as floods, droughts and tropical cyclones).

It will highlight case studies carried out in the framework of the Climate Risk Informed Decision Analysis (CRIDA) project, which engages communities to address their climate change challenges, as well as climate risk management tools, such as flood and drought monitoring and early warning systems. CRIDA supports capacity building initiatives to promote the inclusion of indigenous knowledge, citizen science and open science.

The development of a Climate Change Education Atlas for secondary school level students and youth, based on scientific analysis of climate data and supported by pilot case studies from hydroclimatic zones from different regions, will also be presented. The initiative is developed by the UNESCO Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair on World Heritage and Biosphere Reserve Observation and Education at the Heidelberg University of Education. A brochure and a video teaser “Towards a Climate Change Educational Atlas for Youth”, will be shown to raise awareness among educators and young adults and to attract partners and donors. the funds required to implement a Climate change Education Atlas for secondary school level students and youth.
