Governments around the world have, via the UNESCO framework, committed to implement Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) within mainstream K-12 education systems. Yet many are struggling to imbue legacy educational structures with transformational approaches at scale. Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand have all taken bold steps to transform their systems to respond to evolving demands of the future, recognizing that marginal improvements will not do. Acceleration through disruption on the other hand requires the complex mix of political will, financing, curricular and pedagogical changes, teacher capacity-building, in-school and community support systems, and perhaps, most important of all, mindset shifts.
This webinar is a first in a series that will navigate the multifaceted themes in transformational education through ESD. This first installment will examine progress made on ESD implementation in each country, with particular emphasis on opportunities unique in each country that can be leveraged upon. What will success look like? What more needs to be done, and more importantly, how can it be done?
