Global Schools Hosts a Stockholm + 50 Associated Event

On Friday, June 3rd, Global Schools hosted a Stockholm + 50 Associated Event titled “Education for Sustainable Development as a Pathway for Community Resiliency and Environmental Sustainability.” Over 80 participants came together to hear the keynote, panel, and interactive discussions linking education for sustainable development to the Stockholm + 50 agenda.

Stockholm + 50—a high-level meeting that follows months of consultations by individuals, communities, organizations, and governments on climate action and policy—was held on June 2 and June 3rd. Its theme was “a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity.”

Global Schools’ event fell under Leadership Dialogue 2, “Achieving a sustainable and inclusive recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.” The purpose of the event was to link education and climate action, sharing best practices as well as showcasing youth actions being taken at both the K12 and higher education levels.

Speakers included:

  • Vladislav Kaim, UN Secretary General’s Youth Advisor on Climate Change;

  • Amanda Abrom, Global Schools Program Manager;

  • Handrich Hernando, Sustainability Coordinator at Harbour School Hong Kong;
