Storytelling for Hope: Living the SDG Lifestyle

  • Tzu Chi Center for Compassionate Relief 229 East 60th Street New York, NY, 10022 United States (map)

As we strive to lead better lives, a collective reimagining of our societies and how we respond to crises are needed. Around the world, there are already changemakers at the forefront of innovation, creating alternative models and best practices to address the challenges of today. Storytelling for Hope brings together these perspectives with the UN community to envision a better tomorrow through the power of storytelling and interactive dialogue. This series of conversations and discussions aim to build community, create a space for shared reflection, and provide resources for action.

There are 6 years left to achieve the SDGs, and with many goals lagging behind their targets, off-tracked by the pandemic, erosion of multilateral cooperation, and culture that places profit above sustainability, a values shift is needed to ensure that we address the interconnected crises we face: conflict, climate change, and escalating food insecurity to name a few.

Hosted on the sidelines of the High Level Political Forum at the Tzu Chi Center for Compassionate Relief, this offsite event will bring together policymakers and practitioners working on the ground for an interactive experience to reflect on how the SDGs are already being integrated our daily lives and how we can do more: shining a light on how communities around the world are elevating their lived experiences through the Sustainable Development Goals and shaping the culture of their communities, rethinking what they value, and normalizing an “SDG lifestyle” for the masses.

The following questions will be explored in dialogue with participants of the side event:

  • What does an SDG lifestyle look and feel like at home, school, work?

  • How might we integrate the Sustainable Development Goals into our daily lives? What SDG values can we apply to our daily routine?

  • What are we already doing well to meet SDGs called by a different name and how can we replicate this?

This meeting will be conducted in a hybrid format, with in person and zoom participation.
