Does Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) contribute to a better knowledge acquisition in school subjects? Do school subjects contribute enough to foster ESD?

Following a brief conceptualization of sustainable development and ESD, Péter Bagoly-Simó will look into knowledge configurations in formal education.

While a range of disciplines contributed to the debate, perspectives from the History of Education, Sociology of Education, and Subject Education will constitute the starting point for this presentation. Of particular interest are the ties between subject-specific knowledge and cross-curricular objectives, such as ESD, in competencies-based education. The presentation will use a range of examples from curriculum, textbook, and educational media studies to highlight empirical findings.
