In the Foundational Learning Scale-Up Exchange (FLSE) webinar, Rob Jenkins, UNICEF will discuss with Benjamin Piper, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on Ben’s experiences around supporting foundational learning at scale, drawing lessons from country examples using remediation focus and understanding challenges involved.
The world is in the depths of a learning crisis. Nearly seven-out-of-ten children globally are estimated to be in Learning Poverty, unable to read and understand a simple text by the age of ten. Foundational skills – the ability to read with understanding, do basic mathematics, and have socio-emotional skills – are essential for all subsequent learning and skills development that allows a child to reach their full potential and contribute to sustainable development. The magnitude of the learning crisis demands urgent action at scale to ensure children achieve foundational learning skills.
Key esteemed participants known for their solid work in foundational learning in South Asia and Africa - Rukmini Banerji, Pratham; Mo Adefeso, Brookings Institution; and Dhir Jhingran, Language and Learning Foundation - will also participate the discussion and share their thoughts.
